Ris leaned heavily against the wall. He scanned his form again. ‘Section 33’ it read. He sighed and put it away, and turned up his music. Soon he and the rest of the rookies located in Section 33 would be called down soon to receive their missions. ‘Just remember your training, Ris.’ He told himself.
“Attention!” the intercom sounded. “All units located in Section 33 report to the C.R.M.O.” and the intercom bleeped off. Ris turned off his music, and took off his headphones.
‘Well, here we go…’ he thought, and he ran to catch up with the rest of the group.
The rest of the group was just other rookies like him. They were all heading down to receive the random rookie-rank missions that were waiting at the Cornerian Recruitment Main Office.

As they approached the officer standing outside the office, he began to give instructions. “As you all know, u will be receiving your first missions momentarily. Here’s how it works. You are each given a card, all of them are exactly the same, and by the office doors,” he explained, “there is a machine that will randomly pick out a ball. The ball has a letter and number on it. Match the letter and number to the same on the card. Of to the right of that will be your mission description.” he said. “You may now take a card, located by the machine. Then, single file, line up in front of the machine to receive your ball.” He finished, and then walked away.
Ris was the fourth person in line. He studied his card until he got his ball.
“WHAT?!” he yelled in frustration, “THAT’S IT?!?” ‘I CAN DO MORE THAN THAT!!’ he thought.

After he was done complaining, he walked over to an officer. “How am I gonna deliver this cargo?” he asked.
“You may use the hover cycle in Docking Bay C-6.” He said and pointed to it.
“’Kay, be back soon.” Ris said, and then ran off.
“*sigh*” the officer groaned. “That kid might be trouble someday…” He said shaking his head. He chuckled softly to himself, and walked off as well.

Ris set off on his hover cycle towards the appointed cargo bay, his cycle clinking and clanking along. It was a pretty old model, and definitely needed a tune-up. He speeded past many civilians and other hover boards, hover cycles, and other sorts of transportation, trying to finish quickly. He wanted to please the C.M.R.O. with his first mission’s success.
As he rode, he heard revving engines behind him. He looked back to see hooded figures with blasters at hand.
“What in the-“he started. They suddenly began shooting at him. He sped up, and so did they. They shot more, and he realized they were only aiming for his vehicle, specifically his engines.
“Back off!” he shouted at them, taking out his own training blaster. “Curse training…” he muttered. He shot at one of the cloaked figures, but they swerved away.
Ris turned into an alleyway, barely big enough for his cycle to fit, and turned another corner. The cycle speeded out into the street, and then headed back again towards the bay. He could shelter there.

“Commander, we’ve lost it.” A figure spoke into his wrist com-link.
“I am very displeased, Xecck.”
“I’m sorry, Commander. But-“
“No excuses! Go and retrieve it. NOW!!” He yelled, and then the com-link went blank.
“Well? You heard the man. After that fox!” he commanded. Al the hooded figures hopped back on their hover-cycles, revved the engines, and started after the fox.

“C.M.R.O., Ris reporting. Do you copy?” he said into his wrist communicator.
“This is the C.M.R.O. We hear you loud and clear.”
“I’ve delivered the cargo you’ve assigned me, but had a rough ride. Cloaked figures followed me, though I think I lost them. Any news on them?” he asked.
“Ris, where are you?”
“I’m at the appointed cargo bay. Why?”
“Stay there, we’re sending you an escort.” the officer said rather urgently. Then the screen went blank.
Ris turned his comlink off, puzzled, and walked over to a bench. He sat down heavily, giving his legs a break. He looked down at his training blaster and was disappointed.
“Someday, I swear I’m going to destroy you.” he muttered to the gun, half joking.
A few minutes later, a man in a neat uniform approached him. “Sir, I believe your escort is here.”
“Thanks.” He said, then got up and left the cargo bay. Outside, a small group of people were waiting. However, none of them were rookies. He hopped on his cycle, and followed them back to the base.
“So,” Ris began, “what’s wrong?” he asked.
“I don’t believe it is my business to say. Though I'm sure they will inform you when we arrive.” he assured him.
Ris thought. They rode back to the base, and nothing out of the ordinary happened.

Retsim waited in the hall, stretching and concentrating eagerly on the speaker. Son every rookie in his sector would be called down to receive their first missions; and that meant him. He looked around the hall and saw many different people, all waiting. Some, though, were less excited. There were some monkeys and cats nearly bouncing off of the walls, while some foxes and rabbits were less eager to go. Some kangaroos looked nervous, and some lions looked fierce and ready. He never felt better, because finally all of his training would pay off.
“Would everyone in Sector 32 please report to the main office.” the officer on the speaker called. It was time to leave. Retsim was one of the first to head down towards the main office, leaving most of the other animals behind. He would make everyone proud.

When Retsim and the rest of the rookies approached the office, an officer stepped out.
Retsim picked up a card, and then got in line. After about six others, he received his ball. ‘T4’ was what it read.
“WHAT?!” someone yelled, “THAT’S IT?!?”
‘Dang, I wonder what that guy got…’ Retsim thought to himself. ‘Oh yeah,’ he said, then looked at his card.”’T2’,’T3’, ah-hah,’T4’”.
“’Find new parts to repair damaged ships’” he mumbled. ‘This one isn’t too great either…’ he thought.
“I’m ready to head out sir.” He said as he gave a salute. “What is my transportation?” he asked.
“You may use the hover cycle in Docking Bay A-4, right over there.” He pointed, “You may leave whenever you wish.” he said.
“Yes sir, I will begin a just a moment.” Retsim said, saluted, and then went to get his gear.
“That kid’ll do great…”the officer mumbled smiling.
